Further impressions (4)
Rui Vaz is a small, very quaint village in the mountains and definitely is worth a visit. Entering Sao Domingos from the north (i.e. in the north roundabout you have to turn right to enter the village), at the first houses you have to turn right into the first branching street. Then you have to keep to the right and have to follow the serpentines uphill. In Rui Vaz itself it makes sense first to turn left to the church. If you like, you could delve in that direction, but we returned to the previous way after visiting the church. So we passed the football ground of the village and then came to another junction. Here you absolutely should turn to the right, because so at the end you will arrive at the radar station at the very top of the mountain. The radar station is on clouds level at about 1000 metres. With a cloudless sky you will have an indescribable view over almost the whole island, because this point is the highest point reachable by car. There's no problem to walk around the radar station. Higher you can get only by a walking tour to the 1,5km north-east located peak of "Goto Bravo" at 1394m height.
This prospect from walking way of Serra Malagueta into south-east direction is unique, too. If you take time, then the way should be manageable also for an inexperienced hiker.
The following picture probably shows the best, how the houses of countrymen have been designed for many years. It attracts attention that lodging houses of Villa Morgana look very similar. To get to here, we drove from Calheta along the coast towards Tarrafal. In the northern part of this route a street branches in direction to Mato Brasil that we drove until the end. At that the street circuits a steep valley. Directly in front of the valley, on the left of a house, a way goes up into the montains. If you drive this way very high, then you will come to the shown point. However you have to have a high level of driving experience and you must be very careful.
All over Santiago there's a wonderful kingfisher. Especially its blue coloured wings look very nice when it flies.
