The population is always hardworking and you can only hold them in high regard. Everywhere, were it is possible, maize and beans are planted in the hope that there will be enough rain. As much more longing the rain is awaited. We visited Santiago in the middle of rainy period, but in these three weeks only one day it rained. In the last year the rain began not until december.

On the way from Pedra Badejo to the south, in a roundabout just before Achada Fazenda, a street branches in direction of Assomada. After about 5km you will past the shown reservoir dam whoose enormous water area you should see in the valley on the left. A small, drivable way leads obliquely back to the dam. The silvern rover in the picture is parked exactly there.

Multiple of such reservoir dams exist and additive ones are just build. We saw a new dam near Salineiro in the north of Cidade Velha that still was empty. These dams are the only chance to solve the water problems. They also have a positive impact on the ground-water level.
